Job Description:
Job Description Job Description Job Summary Responsible for the
processing of laboratory specimens and reporting of results in all
areas of the clinical laboratory. Maintains laboratory records.
Follows laboratory policies and procedures; maintains quality
control practices in the Laboratory. Duties and Responsibilities
Demonstrates Competency in the Following Areas: Ability to function
in all areas of the clinical laboratory: blood bank, chemistry,
hematology, microbiology, serology/immunology, coagulation, and
urinalysis. Specimen collection and processing. Responsible for
performing high-complexity testing. Alters or adjusts methods and
procedures for the neonate, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and
geriatric patient. Proficient in analyzer and instrument testing,
quality control, calibrations, and maintenance. Able to analyze
data, QC information. Demonstrates knowledge of expected lab values
for the neonate, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric
patient. Notifies the patient care unit and/or physician of
critical lab values. Maintains accurate laboratory records on
procedures performed. Meets current documentation standards and
policies. Interacts professionally with the Director of Clinical
Laboratory, the Pathologist, and clinical laboratory personnel.
Consults with other departments, as appropriate, to collaborate in
patient care and performance improvement activities. Performs all
aspects of patient care in an environment that optimizes patient
safety and reduces the likelihood of medical/health care errors.
Follows standard precautions at all times. Demonstrates knowledge
of new testing methods, products, and instrumentation; remains
informed on all current technologies. Maintains current knowledge
of hospital policy, accrediting agencies, state, and other
regulatory requirements. Demonstrates the ability to be flexible,
organized, and function under stressful situations. Demonstrates
the value of the team concept on a consistent basis. Professional
Requirements Ensures that appearance and personal conduct are
professional at all times. Excellent attendance record. Wears
appropriate clothing for job functions. Wears ID badge. Works at
maintaining a good rapport and a cooperative working relationship
with physicians, administration, and staff. Represents the
organization in a positive and professional manner in the
community. Maintains patient confidentiality at all times. Complies
with all organizational policies regarding ethical business
practices. Regulatory Requirements Bachelor of Science degree in
Medical Technology, Chemistry, Biology, or Licensed Medical
Technologist. BLS Certification
